PROGRAM NOTE
Breath... wind... butterflies wings is an evocative piece that invites the listener to immerse themselves in a world of delicacy and introspection. Dedicated to the Synchronos Ensemble, this work explores the subtle connection between human breath, the movement of air, and the lightness of butterfly wings. Each element in the title suggests a reflection on the power and fragility of nature, an idea that is mirrored in the musical fabric.
The composition, very concise, draws inspiration from the following lines by Matsuo Basho:
"The butterfly
perfuming its wings
fans the orchid"
The compositional idea is evocative: it aims to recreate a sonic image born from the blend of breath, human respiration, whispered vocal sounds, and the imaginative imitation of the noise that butterfly wings might produce if amplified, almost like in a dream. In this dreamlike vision, the sounds produced by the performers—whispers, inhalations, exhalations, murmurs—merge with the evocative sounds generated by the musical instruments.
